The International Conference AquaSur 2014 named “The aquaculture industry, environment and opportunities“, to be held on October 23rd at the Hotel Patagónico in Puerto Varas (Los Lagos Region), will bring together distinguished speakers who will discuss about relevant issues related to the development of the sector in health, policy and sustainability aspects, and one of the highlights will be the human factor.

The conference organized by the team of Grupo Editorial Editec -company responsible for publications such as magazines AQUA, MINERÍA CHILENA, LIGNUM and ELECTRICIDAD, and highly relevant technical seminars- will take place in the context of the eighth edition of the International Fair AquaSur 2014 that will be held between the 22nd and the 25th of October in Puerto Montt (Los Lagos Region).

In relation to the conference, the Manager of the South Zone of Editec, Rodrigo Infante, said that “the expositors are related to public and private institutions of the aquaculture sector, so the idea is to provide a large analysis of the aspects and quotas that affect the activity. Also, we think that the conference should create a space for conversation among attendees and exhibitors to provide the definitions that the industry needs for its consolidation and improve its competitive position”.

Conferencia-publicoAccording to the agenda of the International Conference AquaSur 2014, the series of talks will be distributed into four modules that will end with a space for questions.

Impressions

In this regard, the president of SalmonChile, Felipe Sandoval, said that “without a doubt the conference will be playing a very relevant subject for the future of the industry, such as health and environmental aspects. SalmonChile works everyday to define a model that supports the environment and, in turn, is competitive. As SalmonChile, will participate in a section that is related to the human factor, item that today is transcendental for the development of the industry”.

Additionally, the executive director of NGO Canales, Cristóbal García, stressed the importance of training workers. “Aquaculture companies say they do not want a technician in operational positions where no studies are required, instead they want them to be prepared to take more responsibilities”.

International Conference AquaSur 2014 have the collaboration of the Technological Training Center of Chile, Billund Aquaculture, Pentair and the Employment and Training Corporation (related to Sofofa); and the sponsors are the Undersecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca), ProChile and the Association of Chilean Salmon Industry AG (SalmonChile).
